Salvator Angelo Bottini, 24, of St. Louis County has been charged with two felonies in connection with the recent theft of a car from outside Club Fitness, 2218 Michigan Ave., in Arnold.
At about 10:50 a.m. Nov. 4, Arnold Police got a call that someone had stolen a wallet and keys from an unlocked locker at the gym and then used the keys to steal the victim’s car, a 2015 Chevrolet Impala valued at about $35,000, the probable-cause statement said.
Police officers reviewed surveillance footage from the gym and identified Bottini as a suspect. He was later arrested in St. Louis County for suspicion of tampering with motor vehicles, receiving stolen property and drug possession, the report said.
A woman found with Bottini allegedly confirmed that he had stolen the car at the Arnold Club Fitness, according to the report.
In addition, when Bottini was booked, he allegedly was found with a membership card for the Club Fitness in Brentwood, the report said.
He also is suspected in several other thefts in the St. Louis area, Arnold Police reported.
On Tuesday (Dec. 6), the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office charged Bottini with one count of first-degree tampering with a motor vehicle and one count of receiving stolen property, both class C felonies. Each of the charges is punishable by up to seven years in prison.
After Bottini was arrested in St. Louis County, he was transferred to the Jefferson County Jail, where he is being held today (Dec. 8) on a $5,000 bond.
