A federal judge sentenced a St. Louis man on Nov. 4 to 35 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to the 2015 shooting and robbery of a House Springs man leaving a St. Louis Cardinals baseball game in downtown St. Louis.
U.S. District Judge Catherine D. Perry sentenced Kilwa C. Jones, 33, to serve his sentence in federal prison for the Sept. 25, 2015, robbery and shooting of Chris Sanna, now 45, who was left paralyzed.
Jones pleaded guilty July 12 to charges including assault with a dangerous weapon, possession and discharge of a firearm, two counts of robbery, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Sanna was shot in the back and has a spinal injury that cannot be surgically repaired, according to his mother, Candis Sanna, on her Facebook page.
According to authorities, Jones shot Sanna while Sanna and his girlfriend were walking to their parked car after leaving a baseball game, the probable-cause statement said. As the two were walking in the 200 block of Walnut Street, Jones approached them, displayed a handgun, and stole a Michel Kors purse from Sanna’s girlfriend, the report said.
The report further states as Sanna reached in his pocket to get his property, Jones fired two shots at him and one of the shots struck Sanna in the back.
Jones went through Sanna’s pockets and stole items from him. About an hour later, Jones used one of the debit cards he had stolen at two locations, which was captured on surveillance footage, the report said.
The victims identified Jones as their assailant, the report said.
Jones is scheduled to appear Dec. 12 in St. Louis Circuit Court for a trial setting on charges related to the case. However, court records show Perry stipulates her sentence shall run concurrently “with any sentence that may be imposed in Circuit Court, St. Louis” relating to the case.
Jones also is scheduled to appear Dec. 2 in St. Louis County Court to face domestic abuse charges.
