The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a 29-year-old High Ridge man who allegedly broke into a home in the 2800 block of Wild Valley Drive in High Ridge. Two people hid in a basement bedroom and escaped through a window while the suspect was inside the house, authorities reported.
Deputies got a call at about 11:10 a.m. Oct. 3 about the burglary. One of the people inside the home told police he and another resident barricaded themselves in a basement bedroom after the suspect started knocking on their back door, the report said.
One of the residents said he heard the man walking around the house before he and the other person hiding in the basement escaped out a window. When deputies arrived, the residents gave them permission to force their way into the home to see if the suspect was still inside, according to the report.
After deputies entered the home, no one else was inside. However, deputies did find glass in the back door of the house broken. The damage to the door was estimated at $300, the report said.
The Sheriff’s Office does not know why the man allegedly forced his way into the house, and officials would not say why the residents hid from the man when he started knocking on the back door.
As of Oct. 8, investigators had not located the suspect, spokesman Grant Bissell said. He asks anyone with information about the incident to call the Sheriff’s Office at 636-797-5515.
