It turns out there was no attempted child abduction at the First Baptist Church of Horine parking lot, 2339 School Drive, last night, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department said today (Oct. 9).

Deputies have spoken to a man and woman who were involved in the incident, which concerned a 10-year-old Horine boy, and they have been cleared of any wrongdoing, Capt. Ron Arnhart said.

Arnhart said a group of children had been playing on the church parking lot and at least one of them threw a ball at the couple’s vehicle. After the couple completed an errand, they stopped at the church again to ask the children about the incident and the 10-year-old boy, who had been riding a bike there, got scared, rushed home and told his mother about it.

The mother, then, reported the incident to the Sheriff’s Office, but after some investigation, deputies are satisfied, Arnhart said, that no child abduction was attempted.
