The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is seeking a 19-year-old man suspected of stealing a surveillance camera from a garage in the first block of Danby Hills in the Festus area. The theft occurred between 3:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. June 20, the Sheriff’s Office reported.
The victim said he was in the process of installing a security system and had left one of the cameras on a table in his garage. He reviewed security footage from the system, which he said showed the suspect enter the garage and leave with what appeared to be the camera in his shorts pocket, the report said.
After that, the victim contacted the suspect, who allegedly told him he had gotten rid of the camera and was trying to get it back. The Sheriff’s Office does not know where the man lives, and as of Wednesday, June 29, he had not been taken into custody, Lt. Gary Higginbotham said.
