The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a recent burglary at a home in the 3100 block of Dorman Road in the Festus area.

At about 8:15 p.m. April 12, the Sheriff’s Office got a call about a suspicious vehicle parked there and loud banging coming from the home, which was supposed to be unoccupied at the time, the Sheriff’s Office reported.

A deputy arrived and found a 2001 Ford F250 parked in front a shed on the property, with the pickup’s tailgate facing the shed, the report said.

Numerous tools and scrap metal were inside the truck bed, and during the investigation, the Sheriff’s Office found that the items had come from the shed, according to the report.

A deputy also found the front door to the home open and made sure no one was inside, the report said.

While the deputy was inside the home, the Sheriff’s Office got another report about two men walking out of a nearby wooded area behind a home on Martin Road, the report said.

The Sheriff’s Office brought a dog to the scene, which followed a track from the shed on Dorman Road through the wooded area and to Martin Road, where it lost the track, according to the report.

The pickup was towed from the scene and the items found in the truck bed were put back in the shed, the report said

The owner of the pickup has been identified, but as of April 20, the Sheriff’s Office had not made any arrests, Lt. Gary Higginbotham said.
