A woman was killed and her brother was shot Sunday (Nov. 30) during what Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office officials are calling a family disagreement in Imperial.

A Sheriff’s Office report said that deputies were dispatched to a home in the 5400 block of Old Lemay Ferry Road at about 3:10 p.m. after two women called Jefferson County 911 Dispatch within a minute of each other.

The first woman, the report said, told the dispatcher that her brother was “out of control” before contact was lost. A second woman then called 911 and told the dispatcher that her son was on the floor bleeding and that her daughter was outside in the driveway, also bleeding, the report said.

Deputies arrived and found Debra L. Hulen, 55, of St. Louis dead in the driveway of the home and a man, 47, on the porch with a gunshot wound.

The man, who was not identified, was airlifted to an area hospital, where he was still being treated today (Dec. 1), the Sheriff’s Office reported.

An 81-year-old woman told deputies that her son and daughter “had gotten into a verbal argument which escalated,” the report said.

The report said the son shot his sister, then shot himself.

An investigation into the case is ongoing, the report said.
