The Rock Community Fire Protection District towed a stranded boat to shore Sunday afternoon (Aug. 18) after it hit a submerged dam in the Mississippi River, tossing a passenger overboard. The incident happened near where the Mississippi and Meramec rivers converge in Arnold, Rock Fire spokesman Ron Harder said.
The man was thrown overboard after the impact, but he was able to quickly return to the boat. He was not injured, Harder said.
Rock Fire water rescue personnel launched its boat from the Flamm City boat ramp in Arnold and safely towed the stranded boat to a nearby bank. The Missouri State Water Patrol and the Saline Valley and Meramec fire protection districts assisted, Harder said.
