The Regional Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the human remains found April 23 in Pevely as Joan Giudicy, 64, of Pevely.

“Her death is considered suspicious and is still being investigated by Pevely Police Department officers and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputies, Pevely Police Chief Mark Glenn announced Friday evening in a written statement.

In early March, Pevely Police said they were seeking information about Giudicy, whose family had reported her missing on Feb. 7. At that time, the family said they had last seen her in December at a family members’ home on Taylor Drive in Pevely.

Family members also said it was not unusual for Giudicy to be out of contact with the family for months, but they became concerned in February and reported her missing.

A mushroom hunter found Giudicy’s remains at the edge of some woods near the 9000 block of Taylor Drive in Pevely, and police got a report about the remains at 7:20 p.m. April 23, authorities reported.

Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office detectives also responded to the scene, and Giudicy’s remains were taken to the Medical Examiner’s Office, where an autopsy was performed.

At the time, Glenn would not release information about the body, other than to say it “was in a state of decay.”

He said Pevely Police and the Sheriff’s Office were working together on the case.

Anyone with information about the case should call the Pevely Police Department at 636-475-5301 and ask for Glenn.
