Arnold Police are investigating a recent suspicious vehicle fire. A 1999 Volkswagen that broke down and was abandoned along southbound I-55 was found ablaze around 3:25 a.m. Nov. 17, the report said.
Firefighters with the Rock Community Fire Protection District extinguished the fire, and then the car was towed from the scene, Arnold Police Detective Lt. James Jones said.
About eight days earlier, an Arnold Police officer talked to someone who had been driving the Volkswagen before it broke down along the interstate. The driver told the officers he would return later to get the car but didn’t, Jones said.
Jones said it appeared that the fire had been intentionally set because accelerant was found inside the car.
As of Tuesday (Nov. 29), there were no arrests and the fire was still under investigation, Jones said.
