This Trump banner in decorating a Festus home reportedly was torn down.

Festus Police are investigating damage to a Trump banner and patriotic display outside a home in the 100 block of North Third Street. The victim, David Albers, reported the vandalism July 13, but it occurred over the previous weekend, Chief Tim Lewis said.

“It happened after I went to bed Saturday night (July 11),” Albers said.

He said he was extremely upset by the incident.

“I’ve lived here two and a  half years, and I’ve never had anything stolen or vandalized before at my house. It was a patriotic display. I’ve got 13 small American flags in my yard they had to walk by to get to the Trump banner. The 13 flags represent the 13 colonies.

“It was a beautiful banner for the president I want to be re-elected. There was also a Marine flag and a POW flag. It was just a class set-up.”

Albers said he has worked to restore the display.

As of July 16, no suspects had been identified, Lewis said.

“It’s a shame people can’t put up a political sign without it getting torn down,” he said. “It’s a shame it’s become so polarized.”

Anyone with information is urged to call Festus Police at 636-937-3646.
