Police are searching for a man who allegedly stole a pickup outside the Dierbergs store an Arnold. The 2020 Chevrolet Silverado was recovered in Millstadt, Ill., but the suspect got away after a short chase in that town, authorities reported.
The pickup, which was valued at $40,000, was stolen at about 10:50 a.m. Sept. 26. The pickup owner, a 56-year-old Imperial man, called Arnold Police and told them he had left the truck unlocked with the keys in the ignition outside the store, 860 Arnold Commons Drive, when he went shopping, and when he returned, it was gone, the report said.
Officers used the pickup’s OnStar system to track it to Millstadt, and officers from the Millstadt Police Department located the pickup and chased the man, but he allegedly jumped out of the vehicle and ran away. The pickup was still in working condition and was returned to the owner, Arnold Police reported.
As of Sept. 30, the suspect had not been located, Detective Lt. Jason Valentine said. Anyone with information about the incident should call Arnold Police at 636-296-3204.
