A Chevrolet S-10 pickup was stolen between 4 p.m. Feb. 1 and 10 a.m. Feb. 2 from outside a home in the 10000 block of Calvey Ridge in Dittmer. However, the pickup was found abandoned later that day in Cedar Hill, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reported.
The S-10 had been left unlocked and was stolen from the driveway. The keys to the pickup had been left inside another one of the victim’s vehicles, a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado parked inside the home’s garage, which was unsecured. It appears the culprit got the keys to the S-10 from out of the Silverado and then stole the S-10. The keys to the Silverado also were missing, but that pickup was not stolen, the report said.
The S-10, which was valued at $4,000, was recovered at about 3:50 p.m., near Hwy. B and Cedar Hill Road. Both sets of keys were inside the vehicle. All the stolen items were returned to the victim, Capt. Gary Higginbotham said Feb. 19.
He said no arrests had been made. Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau at 636-797-5515.
