A pickup stolen from outside an Arnold apartment complex was found two days later in Illinois. The 1995 Chevrolet Silverado was stolen March 2 from the 1200 block of Airglades Drive, and Illinois State Police recovered it March 4 on I-255 in Columbia, Ill., Arnold Police reported.
A 45-year-old Arnold man told police he had been driving the pickup, which belongs to his soon-to-be father-in-law, for several months before it was stolen from outside the Arnold apartment complex. The victim said he could not lock the pickup because the locking mechanisms were broken. He also said he still had one of the two sets of keys to the pickup, the report said.
When officers contacted the pickup’s owner, a 59-year-old Troy man, he said he had given the Arnold man permission to drive the pickup and nobody else. The owner also said he had his set of keys and did not take back the pickup, according to the report.
Surveillance video showed that at about 3:30 a.m. March 2, a white Chevrolet pickup was driving around the apartment complex. The pickup was seen following the Silverado when the two pickups left the parking lot, but the video did not show if anyone got out of the white pickup and into the Silverado before it was driven away, Arnold Police reported.
The Illinois State Police located the abandoned Silverado at about 3:15 a.m. March 4 in Columbia, Ill. The inside panels of both doors had been removed from the Silverado. The pickup was valued at about $10,000, the report said.
