Pevely Police arrested two men June 3 for alleged possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.
Both men, a 24-year-old from De Soto and a 27-year-old from Hillsboro, were wanted on no-bond warrants for parole violations.
Pevely Patrolman Ben Litterall stopped the men’s vehicle at 4:37 p.m. as it was headed south on Elm Street.
Police Chief Ron Weeks said Litterall arrested the 27-year-old driver after determining he had an outstanding warrant.
The passenger started to run off. Litterall ordered him to stop. The man did so, but gave the officer a false name, Weeks said. After questioning, he gave his correct name and was found to be wanted on a warrant from the city of St. Louis.
“A subsequent search of the vehicle turned up multiple used hypodermic needles and pill bottles,” Weeks said.
The driver was transferred to the Jefferson County Jail in Hillsboro and the passenger to authorities in St. Louis.
Weeks said new charges will be sought against both for the alleged drug violations.
