A 29-year-old Festus man was arrested after a police officer noticed that he “kept falling asleep while standing up” inside a Pevely convenience store. The man allegedly was found with illegal drugs, Chief Mark Glenn reported.

The incident occurred Feb. 16 at the I-55 Motor Plaza in the 1700 block of Hwy. Z, Glenn said.

According to the report, the suspect informed the officer “that he was very tired from a recent strenuous gym workout.” The suspect also reportedly told the officer “there might be something illegal in his bag.”

The officer reportedly found several capsules and a straw with a powdery residue on it. The officer seized the pills and straw as evidence and arrested the suspect, who was later released pending an examination of the evidence.

Glenn said Pevely Police are working on the case with the Missouri State Highway Patrol Crime Lab and the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
