A 24-year-old Festus man recently was arrested for allegedly dumping more than 100 dead snow geese on property that belongs to Edge Manufacturing, 1120 Mason Circle, in Pevely.
The man was arrested after people learned through social media about the dead geese dumped on the property and called Pevely Police about it, Lt. Tony Moutray said.
“It got put on the Internet on Feb. 23 and people starting calling us,” Moutray said. “A couple of our officers followed up on it. They tracked down a suspect and made an arrest.”
Moutray would not release the suspect’s name because he said the man was not acting maliciously and the charges against him are relatively minor and will be handled in Municipal Court.
“Snow geese are considered a nuisance animal and there are no limits (on killing them),” Moutray said. “We checked with the (state) Department of Conservation. (The suspect) has been doing this for years and would put them in a dumpster at work. He just put them (on the Edge Manufacturing) property this year.”
Moutray said the department is seeking second-degree trespassing and littering with a carcass charges against the suspect.
“They’re class C misdemeanors,” he said. “He (the suspect) was released on summonses and citations.”
