Jody Eugene Smith, 32, of Pevely has been sentenced to 60 years in prison on child pornography charges, the U.S. Attorney’s Office reports.
Between June 1, 2013, and Sept. 19, 2013, Smith coerced a young girl to engage in sexually explicit conduct with him, photographed the activity and sent the images to others, court records show.
During that same period, Smith coerced her and another minor to engage in sex acts with others and attempted to video record the acts so he could send those images to others, the report said.
Also during that time, Smith sent and received child porn over the Internet, according to the report.
In April, Smith pleaded guilty to multiple child pornography charges, including production, attempted production, receipt and transportation of child porn, and he was sentenced today (Aug. 11) to 720 months, or 60 years in prison, by U.S. District Judge Henry Autrey, the U.S. Attorney’s Office reported.
Assistant U.S. attorney Rob Livergood handled the case, which was investigated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations, Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the St. Louis County Police Department.
Smith also is facing statutory sodomy charges in Jefferson County.
He was charged in September 2013 in Jefferson County with four felony charges of statutory sodomy in the first degree stemming from incidents that occurred between January 2007 and January 2012, the probable-cause statement said.
During that period, Smith allegedly had sexual relations numerous times with a girl, beginning when she was 6 years old, the report said.
That case is pending.
