This home on Golden Gate Drive in Imperial was damaged by fire.

Firefighters rescued a dog and pet turtle this afternoon (Oct. 18) from a burning home in the 2500 block of Golden Gate Drive in Imperial, says Ron Harder, a spokesman for the Rock Community Fire Protection District.

Other than the pets, no one was home when the fire broke out, he said.

There was a lot of damage to the home’s roof, but once that’s repaired, the family should be able to move back in, Harder said.

The fire district got a call at 3 p.m. about the fire, and when firefighters arrived, they “found heavy smoke and fire from the roof,” he said.

Firefighters got the blaze under control quickly, so it didn’t spread much to other areas in the home or to nearby homes, Harder said.

He said it took about 30 minutes to extinguish the blaze.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, Harder said.

The Antonia, Saline Valley and Mehlville fire protection districts helped with the call, he said.
