De Soto Police arrested a 32-year-old Catawissa man for alleged drug possession on Nov. 1, after neighbors called about people entering an abandoned house in the 200 block of South Fifth Street, according to a report from Police Chief Rick Draper.

At 5:46 p.m., officers responded to the house and found two men sitting in a black Hyundai Sonata at the property. Officers searched the vehicle and found a baggie containing a powder substance, the report said.

“One of the suspects admitted the drugs belonged to him and was ultimately arrested,” Draper said in the report.

The 44-year-old De Soto man who was with the suspect was not arrested, the report said.

Depending on results from the drug analysis, charges will be sought against the Catawissa man, the report said.

This is the second time neighbors alerted police about suspicious activity at the abandoned house. Draper said residents can make a difference in the reduction of crime in their neighborhoods.

“This, again, can be attributed to the actions of those living in the area. I always remind people if you see something that’s not right, call us. Let us investigate,” Draper said.
