Almost $32,000 in jewelry, electronics and keepsakes, including Bronze Star and Purple Heart medals, recently were stolen from a home in the 5800 block of Old Little Antire Road in High Ridge, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reports.

Between 8 p.m. April 12 and 2:30 p.m. April 13, someone forced open a window at the back of the home to get inside and stole the items, altogether valued at $31,950, the report said.

In addition to the military medals, stolen items included white gold and yellow gold diamond rings; gold and diamond earrings; a gold and jade ring; a gold necklace with a beer tab pendant; a gold St. Louis Cardinals necklace; a handgun; a TV; a cell phone; and a safe, according to the report.

The victim’s grandfather had earned the military medals, said Lt. Gary Higginbotham of the Sheriff’s Office.

“It’s bad enough that (the victim) has this loss that has a huge (monetary) value, but then you have the sentimental value (of the medals),” he said. “So, it’s a three-fold loss, the loss of feeling violated, the huge-value loss and the sentimental loss.”

As of April 15, the stolen items had not been recovered, and there were no suspects or arrest, Higginbotham said.

He urges anyone with information about the burglary to call the Sheriff’s Office tip line at 636-797-5515.
