A home in the 1000 block of Meadow Grove Drive in House Springs was destroyed by a fire on Monday, Oct. 21.

High Ridge Fire Protection District Chief John Barton said a man and two cats were home at home at the time the fire broke out. He said the man was able to safely escape the home before fire crews arrived. Firefighters were able to locate the two cats inside the home and bring them to safety.

High Ridge Fire was dispatched to the fire at 3:37 p.m. and the last truck cleared the scene at 6:30 p.m.

“The sole occupant at the time of the fire was inside sleeping and was alerted to the fire by their smoke detectors and escaped safely,” Barton said. “When our first truck arrived on the scene at 3:45 p.m., they observed a home that was approximately 50 percent engulfed in flames.”

Barton said there were no injuries to residents or responders because of the fire.

“The fire was investigated and determined to be accidental, with the point of origin believed to be a meat smoker on the back deck of the home,” he said. “There were three adults displaced, but they did not require Red Cross assistance.”

Fenton, Cedar Hill and Rock Community fire protection districts provided assistance at the scene.
