Matthew Charles Stroble, 41, of Arnold allegedly assaulted a woman in an Imperial home. He also threatened to kill the woman if he had to go back to jail, according to court documents.
The Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office on July 7 charged Stroble, who previously lived in Imperial, with first-degree domestic assault, a class B felony punishable by five to 15 years in prison. As of Monday, July 14, he was being held without bond at the Jefferson County Jail in Hillsboro, court records show.
According to the case’s probable-cause statement, a Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputy on July 6 was called to the home because of a domestic assault in progress. The woman, who was allegedly attacked, said she and Stroble were arguing about websites on his phone.
The woman said Stroble grabbed her around her neck and choked her during the argument. He then threatened her before leaving, the report said.
Deputies saw Stroble walking through a wooded area toward the home’s basement. He was able to get into the home and was found hiding behind a washing machine before being arrested, according to the report.
Stroble told deputies he had left the home when he heard police sirens, the report said.
Stroble had already been charged with multiple felonies for allegedly attacking the woman in January, court records show.
The Prosecuting Attorney’s Office on March 10 charged Stroble with two counts of first-degree burglary and first-degree domestic assault, each a class B felony; armed criminal action, an unclassified felony punishable by three to 15 years in prison; stealing a firearm, a class D felony that carries a punishment of up to seven years in prison; unlawful use of a weapon, a class E felony that carries a penalty of up to four years in prison; and violating a protection order, a class A misdemeanor punishable by one year in jail and a fine of up to $2,000, according to court documents.
According to that case’s probable-cause statement, Stroble entered the woman’s home at about 5:30 a.m. Jan. 29, despite the house’s doors and windows being locked. Stroble was not supposed to contact the woman after being served an order of protection warrant on Jan. 23.
The woman said Stroble wanted to talk about an upcoming court date, and he became angry with her because of her memory of the events. She said Stroble choked her with both of his hands, the report said.
Stroble also allegedly threatened the women in the home with a shotgun on Sept. 26, 2024. The woman said Stroble was angry about not being able to live with her at the home, and when she told him to leave, he went to her bedroom and got a shotgun, according to the report.
He then allegedly pointed the gun at her. He then walked out of the home with the gun, the report said.
Stroble also had been charged with misdemeanors, pleading guilty to one of the charges, in connection to the woman, court records show.
In September 2024, he was charged with first-degree trespassing, a class B misdemeanor punishable by up to six months in jail and a fine of up to $1,000. He entered the Imperial home from the basement on Aug. 24, 2024, and the woman told him to leave while holding a shotgun, court records said.
The woman said she got the shotgun because Stroble had been drinking and she feared for her safety. After Stroble left the home, he allegedly used an unknown tool to knock an air conditioning unit out of a window and then swung a large stick through the window to try to break glass closet doors in the room, the case’s probable-cause statement said.
He eventually left with the air conditioning unit, the report said.
In February 2024, Stroble pleaded guilty to third-degree kidnapping for allegedly breaking into the woman’s home by prying the back door open with a butter knife and then used a coax cable to tie the woman’s bedroom door to the adjoining rooms to trap her in the bedroom, court documents said.
The judge suspended the imposition of a sentence and placed Stroble on one year of probation, court records show.
