Dittmer man accused of assault, stalking, property damage

 Mark Jeffery Bonagurio Jr.

Mark Jeffery Bonagurio Jr., 35, of Dittmer allegedly assaulted a woman and drove through her yard despite being served an order of protection to stay at least 1,000 feet away from the woman. He also went to the woman’s home and called her while a De Soto Police officer was at the home, court documents show.

The Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office on Aug. 17 charged Bonagurio with second-degree assault, a class D felony; first-degree stalking, a class E felony; and second-degree property damage, a class B misdemeanor. He was arrested on Aug. 24, and as of Aug. 25, Bonagurio was being held without bond at the Jefferson County Jail in Hillsboro, court records said.

According to the case’s probable-cause statements, Bonagurio violated a restraining order on at least three occasions in July after he received court orders to stay at 1,000 feet away from the woman in May.

Bonagurio on July 8 allegedly drove through the woman’s yard outside her De Soto home at least twice. He allegedly drove through the lawn at about 12:30 a.m. and 1:30 a.m. that day, damaging the yard, planters and mailbox, a probable-cause statement filed by De Soto Police said.

Bonagurio allegedly admitted being at the home on three of the four days before the woman’s property was damaged, but he said he left on July 7 after the two had an argument and was not at the home on July 8. However, Bonagurio’s vehicle was seen on Flock license-plate reading cameras in De Soto between midnight and 2:30 a.m. on July 8, De Soto Police reported.

Bonagurio ran into a vehicle the woman was driving on July 9 in Hillsboro and then drove way, according to a probable-cause statement filed by Hillsboro Police.

Bonagurio allegedly drove in front of a vehicle the woman was driving in the 11000 block of Hwy. 21 in Hillsboro and came to an abrupt stop. The woman was able to stop before hitting him, but he put his vehicle in reverse and smashed into the woman’s vehicle, the report said.

Bonagurio was seen in the Express Mart gas station’s parking lot, 900 Peach Tree Plaza Drive, before driving in the direction of the accident, according to the report.

On July 22, De Soto Police were called to the woman’s home when she allegedly saw Bonagurio looking through one of the house’s windows. He had left the property before an officer arrived, but he called the woman while she was talking with the officer, the case’s probable-cause statement said.

A class D felony is punishable by up to seven years in prison, and a class E felony carries a penalty of up to four years in prison. A class B misdemeanor is punishable by up to six months in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.
