Daniel J. Marchbanks, 26, of Fenton has been sentenced to 15 years in prison following felony charges for burglary, tampering, stealing and other offenses, according to court papers.

On Sept. 21, 2015, a woman had just finished taking a bath at her home in the 2000 block of Saline Road in Fenton and heard a noise in the kitchen, and when she went to investigate, she found glass on the kitchen floor from her back door, which had been damaged and opened. In addition, Marchbanks was standing there with his hand on the doorknob and one foot inside the kitchen, the probable-cause statement said.

When Marchbanks saw the woman, he fled, but a short time later, a deputy spotted him walking in the area, and the victim identified him as the man who was breaking into her home, the report said.

On Sept. 5, 2015, Marchbanks, formerly of Imperial, was spotted at Old Lemay Ferry and Missouri State roads in Arnold driving a pickup that previously had been stolen, the probable-cause statement said.

When Arnold Police tried to stop him, Marchbanks fled, speeding and passing vehicles on Old Lemay Ferry, sometimes crossing the center line and driving on the wrong side of the road with oncoming traffic approaching, the report said.

Marchbanks abandoned the vehicle in the 3000 block of Ems Glen in Arnold, and he and a passenger in the pickup ran away. Shortly thereafter, though, the passenger was apprehended and named Marchbanks as the driver, according to the report.

Marchbanks was arrested two days later and said he knew the pickup was stolen and admitted to driving it, the report said.

On Aug. 21, 2015, Marchbanks stole a pickup from a parking lot in the 900 block of Gravois Road in Fenton, and later that day the St. Clair Police Department pulled him over driving the truck, which had been damaged, according to the report.

Marchbanks pleaded guilty to felony first-degree burglary in connection with the Sept. 21, 2015, incident, to felony first-degree tampering and resisting arrest stemming from the Sept. 5, 2015, incident and to felony stealing a motor vehicle and first-degree property damage for the August 2015 incident.

On May 17, Jefferson County Div. 4 Circuit Judge Mark T. Stoll sentenced him to 15 years for the burglary charge, seven years for tampering, four years for resisting arrest, seven years for stealing a motor vehicle and four years for property damage. The terms are to be served concurrently, or at the same time, though. In addition, Marchbanks may be released early if he successfully completes a 12-month treatment program, court documents indicate.

Jefferson County assistant prosecuting attorney Steven W. Jerrell handled the case.

Marchbanks is also facing misdemeanor stealing and resisting arrest charges stemming from an Aug. 22, 2015, incident in Franklin County. That case is pending.

In addition, Marchbanks previously got probation for a felony charge for possession of a controlled substance tied to a September 2013 incident in St. Louis.
