crime scene

Investigators are trying to find a 49-year-old man suspected of using a De Soto woman’s checking account information to steal $6,636.44 from her. The man, whose address is unknown, was identified through a joint investigation by the Arnold and Crestwood police departments, Detective Lt. Jeremy Christopher said.

The alleged victim, a 78-year-old woman, reported that someone had forged her signatures on checks that were cashed at Together Credit Union locations in Arnold and Crestwood. On Dec. 19 and Dec. 20, two checks were cashed at the Arnold location totaling $2,821.44, and two more checks were cashed on those two days in Crestwood totaling $3,818, the report said.

The woman told investigators she was not missing any of her personal checks. It appears the man somehow got her checking account information and created bogues checks, according to the report.

As of Feb. 15, the man has not been located, Christopher said. He asks anyone who has been a victim of a similar crime to call Arnold Police at 636-296-3204.
