A 48-year-old man was arrested in St. Charles after he was pulled over driving a car with dealer plates that were stolen from a Eureka dealership, Eureka Police reported.
Eureka Police Capt. David Wilson said the man was stopped by St. Charles Police on Oct. 12 when a Chevrolet Monte Carlo he was driving was seen with a dealership plate taken from Scoreboard Automotive Sales and Leasing. Wilson said the man’s last known address was not known, but he did have outstanding warrants.
Wilson said Eureka Police were scheduled to question the man to find out if he was connected to the theft of two cars from the Eureka dealership.
Eureka Police had been called to Scoreboard Automotive, 527 N. Central Ave., on Sept. 26. The business’s owner said a 2010 Dodge Challenger, valued at $12,900, a 2009 Audi A5, valued at $11,500, and 35 dealer license plates had been taken between about 6 p.m. Sept. 25 and about 9 a.m. Sept. 26, the report said.
Power to the business’s building was cut when an electric meter was disabled. Ameren reported that the power went out at about 5 a.m. Sept. 26, according to the report.
The business was entered through a broken garage window, and a desk in the office was rummaged through and a key box was opened. The box contained four keys, which were all taken; two of the keys were for the stolen cars, the report said.
The Charger was found later on Sept. 26 behind the Ferguson Community Center, 1050 Smith Ave. There were 20 dealer plates in the trunk of the car, which had front-end damage from an apparent accident. The car was returned to the dealership, Wilson said.
As of Oct. 14, the Audi, which is silver, had not been recovered, he said.
Anyone with information about the incident should call Eureka Police at 636-938-6600.
