Festus Police arrested an Imperial man July 18 for allegedly burglarizing an occupied apartment earlier that day, Chief Tim Lewis reported.
The incident occurred at about 10:15 a.m. at an apartment building in the 1000 block of N. Third Street, he said.
“The victim, a 39-year-old woman, said someone kicked in her apartment’s door while she was there,” Lewis said. “He was wearing black clothing, kicked in the front door and stole a television. She did not know him.”
Lewis said investigating officers turned up a witness whose tip led them to quickly find the suspect.
“We canvassed the area and a witness advised seeing a man carrying a TV,” he said. “We found him at the Comfort Inn (1303 Veterans Blvd.). He is an Imperial man, 50.”
He said the suspect was released pending application for warrants.
The estimated value of the television set is about $150, he said.
Lewis said the incident appeared to be completely random.
“The victim and this guy have no connection at all,” he said.
