Man in SUV bumps into Festus McDonald's

A man driving an SUV bumped into the Festus McDonald's this morning.

A Festus man suffering a medical problem rolled through a fence and bumped into the McDonald’s restaurant at 1150 W. Gannon Drive in Festus this morning (Sept. 26), Festus Police Chief Tim Lewis reports.

Fortunately, there was no damage to the building.

At about 10 a.m., Chester Alexander, 61, was in a 2003 Isuzu SUV at the ATM located in the parking lot of the St. Louis Bread Co. restaurant, 1075 W. Gannon Drive, which neighbors the McDonald’s parking lot, when he had a “medical issue or some sort,” Lewis said.

“The car rolled forward and through a fence and bumped the (McDonald's) building and stopped,” Lewis said. “How he got across that parking lot without hitting another car is unbelievable. That parking lot is always full.”

A McDonald’s employee said the building was not damaged and service to customers was not affected. A Festus building inspector on scene verified there was no damage to the building.

The SUV struck and damaged a “Do Not Enter” sign that belonged to St. Louis Bread Co, one of its store managers said. She said the fence belongs to McDonald’s.

Lewis said he didn’t know what Alexander’s condition was after the accident.

“I really don’t know about that,” he said.
