Eureka Police arrested a 36-year-old St. Louis man for allegedly stealing an electric scooter from Walmart, 131 Eureka Towne Center Drive. The man rode away from the store without paying for the scooter but returned when his wife called him, police reported.
A customer called police at about 7:05 p.m. April 18 after seeing the man allegedly take the Gotrax scooter out of its box and ride it out of the store. The customer also told police the man was with a woman in the store, and the woman was still shopping, the report said.
Officers arrived before the woman left the store, and they approached her when she went a maroon Dodge Charger. The officers asked the woman about the man who allegedly stole the scooter, and she said the man was her husband, but she didn’t know where he was at, according to the report.
The woman called her husband and told him to return to Walmart. The man rode the scooter back to the store, and he allegedly admitted to stealing the scooter, the report said.
The man was arrested, and the scooter, which is worth $298, was returned to the store, according to the report.
The man was taken to the Police Station, where he was booked and released, the report said.
He was issued a summons to appear in Eureka Municipal Court for shoplifting, Lt. Brett Grittini said.
