Saline Valley Fire Protection District

A fire that destroyed an abandoned mobile home March 7 in the Jefferson County portion of Fenton apparently was caused by a lightning strike, Saline Valley Fire officials reported.

Saline Valley Fire Marshal Ryan Lesh said his district received a call at about 6:20 a.m. for the blaze at the mobile home off Willow Brook Park.

Lesh said the fire was in the living room and kitchen area. Firefighters kept the fire from spreading to an abandoned mobile home next door, he said.

Lesh said the mobile home is a total loss and no injuries were reported. Firefighters left the scene at 8:13 a.m.

He said the firefighters worked through wet weather, but the threatening weather conditions had subsided before the call.

“It was still raining, but there was no lightning or thunder at the time they were fighting the fire,” Lesh said.

The Rock Community and Mehlville fire protection districts and Rock Township Ambulance District assisted with the incident, Lesh said.
