Edward J. Keating, 52, of Arnold, a prior offender, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for driving while intoxicated, court records indicate.
On June 6, 2015, an Arnold Police officer spotted Keating driving erratically on Hwy. 141 near the Arnold Crossroads complex and pulled him over. Keating’s eyes were bloodshot, he smelled strongly of alcohol and his speech was slurred. He failed field sobriety tests and refused to take a breath test, the probable-cause statement said.
In addition, he was driving with a revoked license and was found with a small amount of marijuana, the report said.
Keating, who had at least three prior DWI convictions, pleaded guilty to one count of DWI - chronic offender and one count of driving with a revoked license, both felonies, and on Nov. 9, Jefferson County Div. 6 Circuit Judge Troy Cardona sentenced him to 12 years in prison for the DWI and four years for driving while revoked. The two terms are to be served concurrently, or at the same time. In addition, Keating may be released early if he successfully completes a 24-month treatment program, court papers show.
Jefferson County assistant prosecuting attorney Thomas E. Hollingsworth handled the case.
Keating previously was convicted of three DWIs – one for a March 1984 incident in St. Louis County, one for an incident in January 1998 in St. Louis County and another for a February 2008 incident in Jefferson County, according to court documents.
