Festus Police are investigating a break-in early Tuesday morning (March 8) at John’s Butcher Shoppee, 503 N. Mill St., the latest in a series of similar business break-ins in town.

Police Chief Tim Lewis said someone driving by the store noticed a front glass door broken and called around 4:45 a.m. to report it.

“An unknown suspect broke the glass front door and stole a few items,” Lewis said. “We don’t know how they broke out the glass door. There was a little bit of merchandise stolen with an estimated value of about $700.”

Lewis would not reveal the types of items stolen.

“(The business) has an alarm, but it didn’t activate until we were inside investigating,” he said.

The break-in did not affect business operations, said Jay Spreitler, a butcher at the store.

“We’ve been open like normal,” Spreitler said.

The chief said there have been similar break-ins recently in Festus.

“We’ve had other incidents like this at businesses where someone broke into them through a front door,” he said.

Anyone with information is urged to call the Festus Police at 636-937-3646.
