Nearly $10,000 in jewelry recently was stolen from a home in the 6000 block of Redbud Lane in the Hillsboro area. The theft occurred sometime between March and June 13, while the victims let a family member live in a camper outside their home, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reports.
The person was allowed to go inside the house to use the shower only when the victims were there. However, the victims believe the person stole the items, the report said.
Stolen items included a diamond ring; a gold chain with a diamond cross pendant and a diamond and aqua gemstone ring. In all, the jewelry was valued at $9,775. In addition, a Coleman portable grill worth about $300 was stolen from underneath the camper, the report said.
After the victims noticed the items missing, they confronted the family member they suspected, and he left soon after that. As of June 17, the stolen items had not been recovered, and there were no arrests, said Lt. Gary Higginbotham of the Sheriff’s Office.
