Illinois woman dies, three Jefferson County women injured in crash

An Illinois woman died and three Jefferson County women were injured in a crash on Tuesday. 

A Carlyle, Ill. woman died and three Jefferson County women were injured in a head-on collision on Hwy. 21 south of Liberty Ridge Road near De Soto, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.

The Regional Medical Examiner’s office identified the Illinois woman as Patricia J. Van Hoose, 80. The Highway Patrol reported a 23-year-old Barnhart woman, 23-year-old Arnold woman and a 29-year-old Imperial woman were transported by the Valle Ambulance District to Mercy Hospital South in south St. Louis County.

At 10:55 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, Van Hoose was driving a northbound 2012 Chrysler 200 and crossed the center of the road, striking a southbound 2020 Toyota Sienna, the Highway Patrol reported.

The Barnhart woman was driving the van and was seriously injured. The other two women were passengers in the Sienna. The Imperial woman was moderately injured and the Arnold woman had minor injuries, the report said.

Van Hoose was transported by Arch Air Medical Services to Mercy Hospital St. Louis in Creve Coeur, where she was pronounced dead by hospital personnel at 12:38 p.m., according to the report.

The Highway Patrol no longer publishes names of those involved in accidents.

According to the report, everyone was wearing a seat belt, and the vehicles were totaled.
