A House Springs man died today, Oct. 3, after being struck by a SUV while running across Hwy. 30 in Murphy, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.
The Regional Medical Examiner’s office identified the man as Richard Lee Kraus, 59.
The Highway Patrol reported at 6:35 a.m. on Hwy. 30 east of New Sugar Creek Road, Kraus ran into the path of a westbound 2017 Ford Escape driven by a 60-year-old St. Louis woman. He was pronounced dead by North Jefferson County Ambulance personnel at 6:45 a.m. and was taken to the St. Louis County Morgue by the Medical Examiner’s Office.
Cpl. Dallas Thompson, a Highway Patrol spokesperson, said the man attempted to cross the highway and the driver did not see him in time to avoid striking him.
The Escape had moderate damage, the report said.
The driver was wearing a seat belt, the report said.
