Chaptur Wagoner, 20, of Arnold has been charged with murder and three other felonies for allegedly shooting and killing 43-year-old Timothy Geitz of St. Louis on Wednesday night, Aug. 21, in Imperial.

Wagoner allegedly admitted to firing a gun at Geitz’s vehicle while Geitz was sitting in the driver’s seat. Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to the scene at 9:16 p.m., and when they arrived, found Geitz dead from an apparent gunshot wound, the probable-cause statement in the case said.

Wagoner and Geitz reportedly knew each other, and Wagoner allegedly told deputies he was upset with Geitz. Wagoner reportedly went on to say he was in his vehicle chasing after Geitz who entered an Imperial subdivision, the report said.

Wagoner said once he located Geitz in the 2400 block of Lombard Lane in Imperial, he fired one round from his gun while driving by in his vehicle, a 2019 Infinity Q50, according to the report.

Two other people reportedly were inside or near Geitz’s vehicle when he was shot. After deputies interviewed witnesses, Wagoner was identified as the suspect, the report said.

Wagoner was located in the 3200 block of Miller Road and arrested, the Sheriff’s Office reported.

Wagoner was charged today, Aug. 22, with first-degree murder, a class A felony punishable by death or life in prison without parole; one count of unlawful use of a weapon, a class B felony punishable by five to 15 years; and two counts of armed criminal action, each one an unclassified felony that carries a penalty of no less than three years,

He was being held this evening without bond at the Jefferson County Jail in Hillsboro.

Sheriff Marshak commended the deputies and detectives assigned to the case “for their hard work throughout the night.”
