Two Jefferson County men were arrested in Eureka for alleged possession of methamphetamine during a traffic stop. Eureka Police officers stopped the truck the men were in because investigators believed it was used to steal a trailer on March 26, police reported.
Eureka Police were notified at about 5:10 p.m. April 12 that a 2000 GMC flatbed truck suspected of being used in the theft was parked near Eureka Sign and Display, 134 S. Virginia Ave. When officers arrived at the business, they saw the flatbed parked in front of a home in the 100 block of South Virginia Avenue. The truck pulled away, and the officers followed it to North Central Avenue, the report said.
After verifying the truck matched the description of the one used in the trailer theft, officers pulled over the men near D&C Cycle, 123 N. Central Ave. A 33-year-old Byrnes Mill man and a 45-year-old House Springs man were in the truck, and an officer allegedly saw what appeared to be marijuana residue on the truck’s seats, according to the report.
When officers searched the truck, they allegedly found a black case that contained a bag filled with a crystal-like substance, a bag filled with an off-white powdery substance, 39 capsules, two bags with capsules inside them and 18 bags commonly used to sell and distribute illegal drugs, Eureka Police reported.
The men were arrested and taken to the Police Station, where they were booked and released pending application for warrants. Depending on results of the drug analysis, Eureka Police will seek charges against the men through the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for possession of a controlled substance, Lt. Michael Werges said.
He said both men denied being involved in the theft of the trailer, and the trailer had not been recovered as of April 21.
