A 47-year-old Imperial woman was arrested for allegedly forging and cashing stolen checks at an Arnold grocery store. The woman also allegedly tried to cash one of the checks at an Arnold bank, Arnold Police reported.
The victim had reported that her purse was stolen Feb. 7 at the Fenton Walmart store, and after that some of her checks allegedly were forged and cashed at businesses around the area, Detective Lt. James Jones said. He said the suspect used other people’s IDs to cash the checks.
He said two of the stolen checks were cashed at the Shop ‘n Save store in Arnold – one on Feb. 7 for $99.10 and one on Feb. 12 for $41.08. Then, at about 3 p.m. March 7, Arnold Police got a call that the Imperial woman tried to cash a check for $645 at Midwest Regional Bank, 1913 Richardson Road, in Arnold. When the woman wasn’t allowed to cash the check at the bank, she fled and was gone by the time police arrived, the report said.
However, police identified the woman as the suspect and a short time later, went to her Imperial home and arrested her there. Police officers allegedly recovered some of the items from the stolen purse at her home, as well as other people’s IDs and a wig the suspect allegedly had worn while cashing at least one of the checks, Jones said.
He said the woman allegedly admitted to cashing the stolen checks. The woman was booked and released pending application for warrants. Arnold Police will seek charges against her through the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for forgery, fraudulent use of a credit device, identity theft and possession of stolen property.
