De Soto-area woman charged with alleged domestic assault

Julie Bell

Julie C. Bell, 41, of the De Soto area has been charged for allegedly attacking a man on at least two separate occasions during a four-month span. The two share a home south of De Soto, according to court documents.

Bell was charged Dec. 15 with first-degree domestic assault, a class B felony punishable by five to 15 years in prison; second-degree domestic assault, a class D felony that carries a penalty of up to seven years in prison; and armed criminal action, an unclassified felony punishable by three to 15 years in prison, court records said.

She had previously been charged Sept. 14 with third-degree domestic assault, a class E felony punishable by up to four years in prison, court documents show.

Bell was arrested Dec. 14, and as of Dec. 16, she was being held without bond at the Jefferson County Jail in Hillsboro. Court documents said Bell was anxious about appearing in court on Dec. 15 for the September charge, which led to the latest alleged attack and shows she is a danger to the man.

According to the probable-cause statement filed this month, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called Dec. 14 to the home south of De Soto. Bell allegedly stabbed the man’s right arm with a knife and bit his left arm.

Deputies had previously been called to the De Soto-area home on Sept. 2 when Bell allegedly scratched and grabbed the man’s neck, ripped his shirt, hit him repeatedly and bit his right arm, according to a probable-cause statement filed in September.

Bell was on probation at the time of both alleged attacks. She pleaded guilty in July 2024 to a misdemeanor DWI charge stemming from an August 2019 arrest in Jefferson County, according to court documents.

The judge suspended the imposition of a sentence at that time and placed her on two years’ probation, court records show.
