summons to appear

A 31-year-old Imperial man allegedly exposed himself to three women outside businesses on Vogel Road in Arnold over a one-week period. The man was issued just two summonses to appear in Arnold Municipal Court for first-degree sexual misconduct, though, because one of the women he allegedly exposed himself to did not want to pursue charges, Arnold Police Cpl. Brett Ackermann said.

The suspect allegedly exposed himself to the women between Dec. 6-11. The incidents occurred outside the Home Depot, 3865 Vogel Road; Target, 3849 Vogel Road; and Schnucks, 3900 Vogel Road, police reported.

The first incident was reported at about 9:25 a.m. Dec. 6, when a woman told police she was in her car in the Home Depot parking lot and a sliver compact car pulled into a spot next to her. The woman also said a man wearing an orange traffic vest got out of his car, knocked on her driver-side window, exposed himself and simulated a sexual act, the report said.

The woman said she started her engine, the man got back into his car and the two drove away from the business, according to the report.

Arnold Police got a call around 10 a.m. Dec. 7 about a similar incident at Target. In that case, the victim told officers she was in her car in the parking lot when a silver compact car, perhaps a Ford Focus, pulled in next to her, the report said.

She said she looked over and a man in a yellow traffic vest was exposing himself and simulating a sexual act. The woman said she drove away and contacted the police, according to the report.

Ackermann said after the two incidents, Arnold Police increased patrols in the area, and they were contacted again at about 10:40 a.m. Dec. 11 about a similar incident.

The third victim told police she was in her car outside Schnucks when she heard a sound coming from a sliver compact car that was parked next to her. She said when she looked over, the driver was exposing himself, the report said.

After one of the victims gave police a license plate number from the car, police learned it was registered to an Imperial woman who said the man is her boyfriend and uses the car. Police went to the woman’s Imperial home, found the man there and issued him summonses on Dec. 11.

The man allegedly told police the incident in the parking lot at Home Depot happened after he paid a woman and pulled down his pants. He denied being at Target when the second incident occurred. He also allegedly told police the incident at Schnucks happened when a woman approached him in the parking lot while he was taking off his wet overalls in his car after work, the report said.

The man already was wanted by the Maryland Heights Police on a warrant for fourth-degree assault, but he was not taken into custody because the other agency did not plan to go to Arnold to pick up the man, Ackermann said.
