David Giovanoni, 32, of Imperial, a repeat offender, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison following numerous felony convictions and probation violations, according to court records.

On Oct. 3, after Giovanoni pleaded guilty to a felony burglary charge stemming from an August 2017 incident in unincorporated Fenton, Jefferson County Div. 5 Circuit Judge Victor J. Melenbrink sentenced him to 10 years in prison.

Also on Oct. 3, Melenbrink executed nine sentences Giovanoni previously was sentenced to, including a 15-year prison term, three 10-year terms and five seven-year terms, all to be served concurrently, or at the same time.

Those other nine convictions were for drugs, burglary and receiving stolen property, court papers show.

The August 2017 burglary occurred in the 900 block of Huntington Chase Drive, and Giovanoni admitted to the crime in September 2017 while he was being held at Jefferson County Jail for outstanding warrants, a probable-cause statement said.

Giovanoni told authorities he had a female friend, who he refused to name, drop him off at Saline Road and walked up a hill to a home on Huntington Chase Drive. He said he knocked on the front door and when no one answered, he proceeded to walk to the rear of the home, picking up a rock along the way, the report said.

Giovanoni threw the rock through a sliding-glass door at the rear of the home, went to the master bedroom and grabbed items from a jewelry box. He then sold the jewelry for $194 to Midwest Money Co. in St. Louis, the report said.

Giovanoni pleaded guilty to felony second-degree burglary in that case, which Jefferson County assistant prosecuting attorney Douglas S. Pribble handled.

Giovanoni already was on probation for nine other convictions for incidents from 2013 to 2014, all in Jefferson County, court records said.

He was sentenced to 15 years for possession of heroin tied to a March 2013 incident; 10 years for another heroin possession charge for a July 2013 incident; 10 years for a burglary charge and three seven-year terms for three other burglary charges tied to incidents in May 2014; 10 years for a receiving stolen property charge for a July 2013 incident; seven years for another receiving stolen property charge from a July 2013 incident; and seven years for a possession of a controlled substance charge from a May 2014 incident, court documents said.

Since Giovanoni violated his probation, Melenbrink executed all those previous sentences.

Giovanoni had completed probation he got for two previous felony convictions tied to incidents in 2012.

Giovanoni currently is in the Eastern Reception, Diagnostic and Correctional Center in Bonne Terre.
