$20 bill

Pevely Police arrested a 47-year-old Imperial man and a 41-year-old Fenton woman for alleged possession of $480 in counterfeit bills. The arrest occurred around 11:45 a.m. Aug. 18, after police pulled them over, police reported.

An officer spotted the two near Abbey Lane and Christina Drive in a green Saturn that allegedly had invalid license plates, Capt. Larry Miller said.

“Upon conducting a traffic stop and making contact (with the pair), the man was found in possession of 21 counterfeit $20 bills after a consent search,” Miller said in an email.

Inside the vehicle, the officer found items the two reportedly had just purchased at the Dollar General store in Pevely, Miller said.

“The officer contacted the Pevely Dollar General, and in turn, employees discovered three counterfeit $20 bills in their register matching the ones found on the male,” Miller said.

After the officer took the man and woman into custody, the woman allegedly was found with three more counterfeit $20 bills, he said.

Police returned the items from the Dollar General to the store. The bills were seized and both subjects were booked and released pending application for warrants, Miller said.
