Jamie Schmidt, 53, of House Springs was killed Monday afternoon (Nov. 19) in a shooting at the Catholic Supply Store, 14069 Manchester Road, in the Ballwin area on Monday, St. Louis County Police reported.

The shooting happened at 3:19 p.m., when a man walked into the store committed a sexual assault, shot Schmidt and fled, the report said.

Schmidt, a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in High Ridge, was a customer at the store, the report said.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found Schmidt suffering from a gunshot wound, and she was transported to an area hospital, where she was later pronounced dead, according to the report.

The suspect was still at large this afternoon (Nov. 20), and should be considered armed and dangerous, police reported.

He is described as a white male, between 40 and 50 years old and between 5-foot-7-inches and 5-foot-9-inches tall with a heavy build. He was wearing a navy blue Carhartt-style work jacket; a red, white and black plaid shirt; glasses and a brown belt with a red and blue square on the clasp or clip of the belt, as well as a black or gray flat cap.

“This investigation remains very active and ongoing,” said Ben Granda, a St. Louis County Police spokesman.
