A vacant mobile home in the 4700 block of Wedgewood Drive in House Springs was destroyed by a fire in the early afternoon on Christmas Day, Dec. 25.

High Ridge Fire Protection District crews were dispatched to the double-wide mobile home at 12:55 p.m., and arrived at 1:02 p.m., Fire Chief John Barton said.

He said that Jefferson County 911 Dispatch received multiple calls of a fire on the property.

“The first truck arrived on the scene and found a double-wide mobile home with fire throughout,” Barton said. “It was well-involved by the time they got on the scene. (Firefighters) had pulled two fire attack host lines off their truck since there were no utilities to the structure.”

The fire was under control by 1:26 p.m., and the last truck left the scene at 3 p.m., Barton said. The cause of the fire remains undetermined, he said.

“(The mobile home) had been abandoned for some time, that was what was reported to 911 as well as to us on the scene,” Barton said. “With there being no utilities, it’s hard to say – it pretty much rules out an electrical fire if there are no utilities. There may have been somebody in the mobile home prior to our arrival who started a fire, maybe to keep warm. There could be multiple reasons, but we are not able to determine the cause.”

Barton said there were no reported injuries due to the fire and no damage to any surrounding properties on Wedgewood Drive.

Eureka and Goldman fire protection districts and Big River Ambulance District provided support on the call.
