Todd Matthew Combs, 34, of House Springs has been charged with four felonies and a misdemeanor after he allegedly violated a protection order by breaking into his former girlfriend’s Arnold home and assaulting and raping her, court records show.

The Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Combs on July 15 with first-degree rape and first-degree sodomy, each one an unclassified felony punishable by five years to life in prison; first-degree assault, a class A felony that carries a penalty of 10 to 30 years or life in prison; first-degree burglary, a class B felony punishable by five to 15 years in prison; and violation of a protection order, a class A misdemeanor that carries a penalty up to one year in jail and a possible fine up to $2,000, according to court records.

Combs was being held without bail in the Jefferson County Jail.

At about 5:25 a.m. July 15, the alleged victim called Arnold Police to her home and told investigators that Combs, who she got a protection order against in June, had entered the house through an unlocked rear sliding door, the probable-cause statement in the case said.

She said she woke up just after midnight and Combs was standing over her bed and refused to leave. Combs allegedly accused her of sleeping with other men and then sexually assaulted her, the report said.

Combs then reportedly grabbed the woman’s cell phone and forced her to provide a code to unlock the phone, threatening to beat her with the phone if she did not provide the code. After the woman provided the code, Combs allegedly looked at its contents and attacked the woman again, according to the report.

The woman said Combs hit her on the head, face and body with open and closed fists, the report said.

The victim said Combs forced her to cuddle with him on the bed at about 5 a.m., and he allegedly raped her again. She told investigators she did not fight Combs during the second sexual assault because she was exhausted, according to the report.

The woman told investigators that Combs threatened to get a gun and shoot her and then himself. She also said Combs called her phone 41 times between about 9 p.m. and just before midnight on July 14 before the alleged attack, according to the report.

The woman was examined July 15 at Mercy Hospital South in south St. Louis County, where a rape kit was administered, and she was treated for a broken left ear drum and numerous bruises on her body and head, the report said.

The couple’s 4-month-old child was in the woman’s bedroom during the alleged assault, according to the report.
