A 31-year-old House Springs man was arrested after he allegedly attempted to flee from a St. Francois County Sheriff’s Office deputy during an attempted traffic stop. The man was arrested after he crashed the pickup he was driving, St. Francois County Sheriff Jeff Crites said in a Facebook post.

At about 12:50 a.m. March 26, a deputy attempted to stop a multi-colored Chevrolet S-10 on Rouggly Road in northern St. Francois County due to the pickup having two different license plates. The House Springs man, who was driving the pickup, started driving faster after the deputy turned on his cruiser’s lights and siren, the report said.

The man led the deputy in a pursuit onto Hwy. 67. A second deputy deployed spike strips on the highway, which deflated a tire. The man eventually lost control of the pickup and crashed into a ditch off Valles Mines School Road just south of the Jefferson County line, according to the report.

The man ran away from the crash, but he was arrested shortly after a St. Francois County K-9 unit was used, the report said.

Crites said the man was wanted on an active misdemeanor warrant. He also said the St. Francios County Sheriff’s Office will seek charges against the man through the St. Francois County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for aggravated fleeing, possession of a controlled substance and traffic offenses.

The Leader is not naming the House Springs man due to him not having felony charges filed against him as of Tuesday, April 1.
