A couple and their four dogs lost their home in the 5500 block of Stonecrest Drive in House Springs in a Jan. 3 fire. They also lost all their belongings, said Capt. John Barton of the High Ridge Fire Protection District.
He said the woman was at a neighbor's home when she saw flames coming from the kitchen window of the mobile home where she lived. She attempted to enter the home and put out the fire, but she could not because of the smoke and heat from the fire, Barton said.
He said the man who also lived in the mobile home was not there when the fire started.
Barton also said all the dogs made it out of the home safely.
Firefighters were dispatched to the home at 12:37 p.m., arrived by 12:45 p.m. and remained on the scene until 2:42 p.m., Barton said.
He said the fire started in the kitchen, and while it was not suspicious, the cause was not determined.
Barton said the couple rented the home, and he didn’t know where they are living now.
The Eureka, Saline Valley and Antonia fire protection districts helped with the call. The North Jefferson County Ambulance District also responded to the scene.
