Jerry Keith Holifield, 29, of De Soto has been sentenced to seven years in prison for domestic assault and felonious restraint, court records indicate.

On March 21, Holifield, a persistent offender, assaulted and injured a woman he had a relationship with, punching her in the head and face and slamming her head against a tile floor, the probable-cause statement said.

During the assault, the woman tried to crawl away from Holifield, but he restrained her, pulled her back by the ankle and continued striking her, the report said.

As a result, she ended up with “severe swelling and bruising to her left eye socket” and other bruising and injuries to her head and face, including a cut on her nose and mouth, the report said.

She was transported to Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City, where she got stitches in her nose and mouth and received other treatment for her injuries, according to the report.

Holifield, previously of House Springs, pleaded guilty to second-degree domestic assault stemming from the March incident, and on Aug. 3, Jefferson County Div. 1 Circuit Judge Robert G. Wilkins sentenced him to seven years for domestic assault and seven years for felonious restraint. However, the two terms are to be served concurrently, or at the same time, the report said.

Jefferson County assistant prosecuting attorney Tiffany S. Baker handled the case.

Also on Aug. 3, Wilkins sentenced Holifield to five years for felony abuse or neglect of a child tied to an Oct. 31, 2014, incident, when he used a belt to whip a 7-year-old boy, leaving him with cuts and bruises, the probable-cause statement said.

Holifield also pleaded guilty to that charge. The five-year term also is to be served concurrent with the seven-year terms, court papers show.

He previously was convicted of unlawful possession of a firearm, a felony, connected to an April 2012 incident in Jefferson County and was sentenced to five years, but that sentence was suspended and he received five years’ probation. After violating his probation, though, the five-year term was executed in June.

Holifield has three prior domestic assault convictions.

One was a felony charge tied to a September 2010 incident in Jefferson County, and in December 2010, he was sentenced to two years in prison for that, the report said.

The other two domestic assault convictions were misdemeanors, one stemming from an August 2009 incident and the other from an October 2008 incident, both in Jefferson County, and he served jail time for those, according to the report.

Holifield also was convicted of felony stealing connected to a September 2003 incident in Jefferson County and was sentenced to two years in prison, but the sentence was suspended and he got two years’ probation. However, after violating his probation, the sentence was executed, according to court records.
