Festus Police patch

Festus Police say a Hillsboro woman reported the theft of her purse early Sunday afternoon (Aug. 24) when she left it in her vehicle while going inside the Festus 7-Eleven, 1301 Veterans Blvd., to pay for gas.

Chief Tim Lewis said the woman, 37, took her wallet with her to go inside the store after pumping gas, leaving her purse in her 2010 Chrysler van.

“While she was paying for the gas, another vehicle pulled along hers on the right,” he said. “Someone got out of the vehicle, opened the (front passenger) door and took the purse.”

Lewis said security camera footage did not capture the suspect’s vehicle or license plate. The camera only caught glimpses of the purse snatcher, he said.

He said the victim told police her purse contained personal items, including credit cards.

Anyone with information is urged to call the Festus Police at 636-937-3646.
